Slings

Now that you've decided you want to babywear, the next logical step is to choose your sling. In this library category you can explore the different options and brands I offer. In general, a sling is a piece of fabric that resembles a scarf. Using it, you can carry your baby and enjoy your closeness and freedom of movement. This type of carrier is extremely suitable for both newborns and older children.

Types of sling

Depending on the age of the child, its needs and your wishes, you can choose from three main types of sling – elastic, ring sling and woven sling.

Elastic sling

Elastic slings most often have no size, but they differ in width, thickness and type of fabric. It is of utmost importance that the elastic sling can be stretched widthwise, not lengthwise. It is a suitable option for newborns because it can be put on in advance and then the baby can be placed inside it. This is a more convenient and easy alternative for parents with less experience. If the child was born with a lower weight, then you should bet on a narrower sling made out of thinner fabric. There are also hybrid elastic slings that have a pre-shaped place for the newborn, but they are not recommended in the first days after birth because they do not provide the necessary support around the baby's head. Ring sling

The type of sling I would also recommend for newborn babies is the ring sling. It is made of sling fabric, and the length of the sling varies from 1.8 to 2 meters. The length is determined not by the size of the child, but by that of the parent carrying the baby. The width of the ring sling is about 70 cm, which is enough for the healthy and safe placement of the child in the carrier. An interesting trend is that in recent years manufacturers of ring slings have been making them narrower, making it easier to carry smaller babies.The ring sling has several advantages, among which is its quick installation. This type of sling is short, easy to carry and doesn't take up much space. It allows the parent to carry the baby in two positions: belly to belly and at-hips. The ring sling is not recommended for long walks because it restricts the movement of one of the parent's arms.

Woven sling

A woven sling comes in a variety of sizes that do not relate to the weight of the baby, but to the body of the mother. The woven sling, which is 4.6 meters long - size 6, is recommended for ladies over 165 cm tall, wearing the following clothing sizes: M, L, XL to 2XL. For smaller parents it’s better to choose size 5, which is 4.2 meters long. A sling of 70 cm width is considered one with a classic width. There are also brands that offer narrower woven slings.The woven sling offers multiple tying options such as belly to belly, at-hips, at-back. The tying possibilities depend on the composition, density and length of the sling. This carrier is recommended for both newborns and toddlers.
